Quitting Sugar and Processed Foods - How to Stop being a Fat Bastard
Has anyone overcome a sugar addiction and if so what methods do you use?

I can't help myself from taking 5 biscuits instead of one even though I know how bad it is for me.

Luckily, I am not huge, but that is all down to copious amounts of exercise. However, you can't out-run a bad diet and whilst I might look in reasonable shape, I am not as healthy as I might look.

There must be some good techniques people use to moderate, cut down and/or quit sugary foods?

Cheers, and look forward to my 6-pack in 8 weeks.

I don't really have a sweet tooth, and I prefer to prepare proper meals.

None of us are overweight or belong to a gym, we walk a lot and cycle for fun, that's about it.

I found going from sugar to sweeteners for hot drinks helped then eventually cutting down to one sweetener now

Perhaps try sweet fruits instead of biscuits?

It's hard. I love my sweet stuff.
Years ago I went on the Atkins diet and it worked. It was a miserable couple of weeks then easy. These days no one talks about Atkins as keto is the same thing.
There's a psychological hurdle to overcome, so you have to be motivated.

Introduce foods that actively reduce cholesterol, and keep up the exercise.
After a while you'll be able to get away with a bit more sugary stuff than you can now.

Use an app to log your intake, one that shows. your calories AND the composition of your food and drink.

It's a bit boring at first but over time you build up a quick reference library.

When faced with the calorific value and sugar content of a biscuits in print rather it makes it harder to delude yourself about it.

I have always loved sugary snacks and always will but I have reduced my consumption and replaced with fruit, nuts and more cereal based bars.

quite simply looking at what you are cooking/eating will tell you all you need to know.
how many processes did it go through to look like this? does it look vaguely natural.

apple
apple sauce
apple turnover

Re: Quitting Sugar and Processed Foods - How to Stop being a Fat Bastard
I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last month which has been a real shock to the system as I love my sweet stuff and white carbs.

I am however determined to reverse the diabetes and have more or less cut out the above from my diet and have upped my cardio exercise (which I'm surprisingly really enjoying). I've lost about 6kgs in a month just from doing that.

Having researched diabetes, it is a ticking time-bomb and if you have it long term and avoid going blind or having a foot amputated you are pretty much certainly going to have a life changing heart attach or stroke.

With the amount of sugar and unrefined carbs being consumed in the UK and developed world diabetes is going to affect the majority of the next generation of adults.

I am beginning to come round to the idea of taxing sugary foods if its the only way to stop the tide.

Woodford - try intermittent fasting to reverse the effects of diabetes.

If you look at the ingredients of manufactured food, the main ingredients are listed first and are often high carb, sugar, corn syrup etc. Low nutrition but high in easily accessible calories.
Anything made from wheat will contribute to it too, plus it has an inflammatory effect on some people.

If you know something is really unhealthy just don't do it? Or at least don't do it as much?

Dunno why people complicate this sort of thing

As well as ingredients, there is also a nutritional breakdown. If it's more than a few percent sugar, don't eat it.

People who eat refined and processed food tend to lack important nutrients like magnesium. So if you get cramp or irregular heartbeats, that is why.

tesco have 24 cans of pepsi max for a fiver.

aspartame is like the old chicago gangster that the food standards agency can't pin anything on.

Pepsi Max is my addiction.. especially the cherry and raspberry ones. Just chemicals with no nutritional value, but I like it.

The USA has famously low standards with regards to food additives. Australian supermarkets have to stick warning labels on food items imported from there.

I find that going heavy on the protein helps me lay off the sugar and carbs.

Also, have a cheat day once a week helps.
